After about 5 years of monitoring the area with my Trail Cameras, I finally got daytime photos of the Mountain Lions. It was a jackpot of photos so forgive me for sharing probably too many of them. It looks like Mama Lion has said farewell to last year’s mostly grown kittens. She now has 3 healthy half-grown kittens following her around. They actually lay down in front of one of the cameras and relaxed, played around and groomed themselves.
I was thrilled to see all the excellent daytime photos but was also alarmed to look at some of the times stamped. They are pretty much active in the area at some of the very times I am out grabbing the memory cards out of the cameras. It has been very hot and not so many people are venturing out there during the day which explains the Lions unusual daytime activity.
I hope the fawns can avoid the cats, but I am sure with three mouths to feed some will undoubtedly fall prey to the Lion family. One of the photos shows a kitten with a deer leg in its mouth. By the size it looks like a mature deer, but it is inevitable that the Lions will take a toll on the fawns.

Yes I am excited to see them out and about during the day but I will have to adjust some of my methods and behavior accordingly.
I was never too worried about any wildlife in CO… except mountain lions. The understanding that I’d likely never see the attack coming just gave me the creeps.

Danger Kitties, wonderful shots, I’m always a lot more on edge when in Cougar territory. We have Lynx where I grew up, despite almost 20 years there only ever saw them twice, and never enough to catch them with a lens. Great pictures.

If big predators are thriving, it certainly is a healthy environment. Some of the deer will escape- the fittest ones, and the lucky ones.
We people tend to believe there are peaceful perfect worlds beyond the struggles of nature… I genuinely hope this is true, but in this life we should pay our deepest respect to nature.

I’ve only seen mountain lion tracks, never in person even though the tracks were in my backyard. I suppose that’s a good thing.
It is. I have seen Mountain Lions 3 times in person in the wild and count myself lucky. I don’t seek encounters for obvious reasons.

Really nice photos, thank you for sharing. Your Stealthcam takes great pictures. I’ve only had 2 mountain lions on my cams here in Southern AZ. I have had a lot of bobcats though.
