  1. Aha! Love that scrappy little sprout! I’m a huge fan of coyotes. A pair recently met us on our drive up our rural road, and I’ve seen evidence of them in our back yard. When we’re lucky, they sing to us in the wee hours! Great pics!

  2. Apropos this post, we’ve had a young family taking up residence here — parents and a youngster born just around the time this one probably was. I love waking up to their songs in the early morning! And the other day, I went to pour my morning coffee and was treated to the sight of the three of them right in our back yard. The youngster picked up a garden hose to see if it would be a good toy, but rejected it since it wasn’t very portable. Instead, he (?) found a wad of carpet fiber (previous owners buried an old carpet out back for some reason and Jeff’s mower always hits it and shreds little bits).

I got a real treat watching the young one play with it, bounding in circles and shaking it, then engaging the ‘rents in a game of chase, doing laps around the yard! Hysterical! Usually they’re so wary. It was great to see them playing like puppies!

When I went out to the yard later to make sure there weren’t any holes in my hose (there weren’t), I saw that they’d clearly enjoyed that carpet. They’d pawed it up and exposed it and torn pieces of it off. Perfect dog toys! 🙂 I thought of this photo, naturally!

    1. Aww…loved reading this. I read somewhere not too long ago that wolf parents have been observed bringing “toys” back to their cubs. Antlers, wood, old bones etc. Made me smile.
